What is Pilates?
Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps to build flexibility, muscle strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing and developing a strong core, whilst also improving coordination and balance. Pilates is not stressful to joints and as such is a suitable exercise for any age group.
These classes are performed on a mat with additional equipment such as resistance bands, soft balls, Fitness Circles and soft weights. I will supply all the equipment needed in class including a studio quality mat but you can, if you prefer, bring your own mat.
CHAIR CLASSES - the weekly maintenance service for your body
I developed the chair class for my mum who had cancer but wanted to exercise safely and thought I could take the exercises from the floor and put them onto the chair. I embarked on a re-habilitation course and following that combined Pilates exercise with physio re-hab exercises to come up with the programme that I teach today. This programme works the body from the neck down to the toes keeping the muscles and brain active. An important part of the classes is to teach them in a fun environment (you will always want to exercise if you are enjoying it). The chair classes that I run are very popular and very sociable which is another great factor of the classes.
